Athena at age 22 years
Athena is the Arabian grand dam of my Friesian Sporthorse Dixie's Dark Lunar Magic. The magazine EQUUS recently published in the February 2011 issue the story surrounding my search to bring her back home for her golden years. It can be found in the True Tales Section "Finding Athena". The above photo was taken 9 months after I got her back after rescuing her from starvation with the help of a nice young lady. Athena passed away with humane assistance before her infirmities completely took away her zest for life. It was an immensely emotional decision for me. Athena had a good 2 1/2 years of golden retirement and left this world a relatively happy horse. She crossed over with a carrot in her mouth and being petted by the person who loved her most.
